Common questions
Which Macs does Snip Studio run on?
Any Mac running macOS 14.6 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.
What is free, and what is not?
Taking screenshots is free — area, window, full screen, circle and lasso captures, plus the searchable library. The editor, screen recording, web capture, the Safari extension and automations are part of the paid ULTRA upgrades, which are in-app purchases handled by Apple.
Why do my free captures have a small mark in the corner?
On the free plan, snips you copy or save carry a small Snip Studio mark in the bottom-right corner. What you see while editing, and the originals kept in your Library, are never marked. An in-app ULTRA upgrade removes it.
How do I restore a purchase on a new Mac?
Open Snip Studio, go to the ULTRA screen and choose Restore Purchases. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account, so make sure you are signed in with the same one you bought with.
Does Snip Studio sync between my Macs?
No. There is no account and no cross-device sync of your captures — they live on the Mac that took them. Snip Studio does store a small amount of non-personal data, your free-usage allowance and a record that you accepted the agreements, in your own private iCloud account. That never reaches the developer. See the Privacy Policy.
What permissions does Snip Studio ask for?
Screen Recording, which macOS requires before any app can capture your screen. Microphone and Notifications are optional and are requested only if you add narration or turn on automation notifications. Snip Studio does not request Accessibility, camera, location, contacts, calendars, your photo library, or any tracking identifier — the full list is in the Privacy Policy.
Screenshots aren't working at all — is that Snip Studio?
Often it is macOS rather than the app. Start with Mac screenshot not working — 12 fixes, which covers disabled shortcuts, changed save locations and permission problems.
How do I request a refund?
In-app purchases are sold by Apple, so refunds go through Apple. Use reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account you purchased with.
